"If you like to snorkel or free dive, don't forget your underwater camera! Your pictures can make the difference for this species."

This project, promotes citizen science, which means that any citizen able to take pictures of the species natural markings can be part of this global scientific initiative. The project includes the creation of a public online database to facilitate the engagement of the public to collaborate with us. This database created through the open source software framework "Wildbook" will provide a platform to easily report each sighting and the associated pictures. This kind of online data management platform has already been used for photo-identification of many terrestrial and marine species such as manta rays (MantaMatcher).

Picture exemple

This picture shows an example of a good picture (right: shot vertically with the wings fully open) to be used for photo-ID. However every sighting is important even without pictures. Try to approach the ray quietly so as not to surprise it.
